Economic and development issues were at the heart of the friendship and cooperation visit of the Guinean transitional President, General Mamadi Doumbouya, to Ivory Coast on Tuesday, June 17, 2025. Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara and his Guinean counterpart jointly expressed their willingness to strengthen bilateral exchanges in key sectors.
Trade between the two countries, estimated at 150 million euros per year according to the World Trade Organization (WTO), has significantly increased by 78% according to Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara. However, the two countries aim to take economic cooperation to a higher level, particularly in the energy, mining, transportation, and infrastructure sectors, including road infrastructure that enhances connectivity between the two countries in a spirit of sub-regional economic integration.
Beyond the economic aspect, General Mamadi Doumbouya, positioning himself geopolitically as a non-aligned figure, could potentially be the key to rapprochement between ECOWAS and the EAS. The Guinean transitional President maintains good relations with both sub-regional organizations.
