The Moroccan Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development launched, on December 5, 2025, two international competitive bids for new strategic gas infrastructure. These projects aim to strengthen the country’s energy security by developing a national system for importing, storing, and transporting natural gas.
The first bid is for the chartering of a Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) for the Nador West Med LNG terminal. A pre-selection procedure is open to choose the operator responsible for providing the unit, who will also be able to carry out certain “topside” equipment, such as loading arms and connection facilities.
Once completed, these equipment will be transferred to a public entity before the terminal enters into service. The total investment is estimated at 273 million dollars. This FSRU will be connected to the Maghreb-Europe Gas Pipeline (GME), allowing the terminal to be quickly integrated into the existing gas network.
The second competitive bid is for the development of a national gas pipeline corridor connecting the port of Nador West Med to the GME and serving the industrial areas of Kenitra and Mohammedia. The total cost of the projects undertaken in this framework amounts to nearly one billion dollars.
