Continental Reinsurance has reached a key milestone in its expansion in East Africa by obtaining approval from the National Bank of Rwanda, the central bank. Operational since August 10, 2026 under the name Continental Reinsurance® Limited, this representative office in Kigali reflects the pan-African reinsurer’s commitment to solidify its presence in the Rwandan market.
This establishment aims to optimize local coordination with insurers, brokers, and professionals in the Rwandan sector. By complementing the technical and underwriting capabilities already present in the region, the office allows teams to get closer to their partners to provide them with tailored support and increased responsiveness.
Kevin Mworia, Managing Director of Continental Reinsurance Kenya, highlights the dynamism and regulatory rigor of the Rwandan market, described as one of the most successful in the region. To achieve this ambition, a dedicated local representative will be announced in the coming weeks to ensure partners have direct access to the company’s solutions.
This development exemplifies the group’s philosophy, combining over forty years of experience in more than 50 countries with a deep understanding of local specificities. With a financial strength rating of B+ (Good) awarded by AM Best, Continental Reinsurance continues to expand its network with over 1,000 cedants and brokers.
