Brazzaville prepares to welcome African finance
Five days before the official start of the 2026 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), Brazzaville is gradually gearing up for one of the largest economic and financial events on the continent. Scheduled from May 25 to 30 at the International Conference Center in Kintélé, the event will bring together heads of state, finance ministers, central bank governors, investors, multilateral institutions, regional banks, private sector actors, and representatives of African civil society.
This edition comes at a time marked by pressure on African public finances, the challenges of mobilizing continental savings, the increasing need for infrastructure, energy transition, and debates on the reform of the international financial architecture.
Highlight of May 25: Africa Day opens the Meetings
On Monday, May 25, 2026, from 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm (GMT+1), the Mfoa Plenary Hall of the International Conference Center in Kintélé will host the official celebration of Africa Day, which will symbolically kick off the 2026 Annual Meetings.
Organized jointly by the AfDB, the Congolese government, and the African Union Commission, this ceremony aims to blend diplomacy, culture, and African identity in an atmosphere that is both institutional and festive. Heads of state and government, bank governors, administrators, technical and financial partners, diplomatic corps representatives, business operators, young entrepreneurs, and international media are expected to attend.
One of the most anticipated moments will be the African Cultural Heritage Parade, during which delegations and Bank staff will parade in traditional and contemporary attire representing the various regions of the continent.
“Words for Africa”: a collective mural on the continent’s vision
Among the planned activities, the live artistic installation entitled “Words for Africa” is expected to capture the participants’ attention. Led by a young Congolese artist, this initiative will allow guests, whether physically present or connected online, to write three words representing their vision of Africa’s future.
The stated goal is to create a collaborative work symbolizing the continent’s aspirations around themes such as integration, economic sovereignty, youth, innovation, and industrial transformation.
Industrialization: launch of a new continental index
Another highly anticipated event on May 25 is the official launch of the Africa Industrialization Index (AII) 2025 and the first Africa Industrial Investment Barometer (AfIIB).
The presentation will take place from 10:30 am to 11:30 am (GMT+1) under the auspices of the AfDB, WITBA Invest SA, and Trendeo.
The theme chosen this year – “AfCFTA: Advancing the Unfinished Agenda of Regional Industrialization” – emphasizes the role of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) in accelerating African productive integration.
The index will analyze the industrial performance of African countries through 19 indicators focusing on:
– manufacturing production;
– industrial capital;
– quality of infrastructure;
– business environment;
– macroeconomic stability;
– labor capacity;
– attractiveness for private investment.
The results are expected to identify future African industrial hubs and the most dynamic regional corridors.
