Abidjan, August 20, 2026 – The market capitalization of the BRVM stock market reached 20,036.18 billion FCFA today, setting a new record for the financial market of the UEMOA.
Indeed, the market capitalization of the stock market has increased by 50.30% compared to January 1, 2026, when it stood at 13,330.71 billion FCFA. Over a longer period, it has multiplied by 24 since the start of BRVM activities on September 16, 1998, when it was 836.19 billion FCFA.
This market capitalization of the stock market is mainly driven by the Financial Services sector, which represents 44.16% of the total. It is followed by the Telecommunications and Basic Consumption sectors, representing 33.36% and 12.54% of this capitalization respectively. These three sectors thus account for 90.06% of the BRVM stock market capitalization.
Among the 47 listed companies, SONATEL SN, ORANGE CI, SOCIETE GENERALE CI, ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TG, and CORIS BANK INTERNATIONAL BF occupy the top five positions and represent 49.16% of the total market capitalization of the stock market.
The upward trend observed since the beginning of the year can be appreciated in light of the general evolution of capital markets globally and, more specifically, on the African continent, where several stock exchanges are also recording significant performances. It comes in a context marked by a renewed attractiveness of capital markets, including the return of initial public offerings, capital increases, and a renewed interest from both institutional and individual investors in listed companies.
Beyond the performances recorded, this positive evolution of capital markets repositions them in long-term financing of economies, a role that is expected to increase in the coming years in the face of sustainable finance, technology challenges, and the opening of other instruments or markets, including the mining and agricultural sectors.
