4. Background and Rationale
4.1. Niger’s Geographical and Economic Position
With a territory covering approximately 1,267,000 km² and an estimated population of nearly 28 million, Niger occupies a strategic position between North Africa and sub-Saharan Africa. This geographical location offers opportunities to expand trade and access regional markets.
The country possesses significant natural and productive resources, particularly in mining, oil, agriculture and energy. Developing these resources creates investment opportunities in industrial processing, infrastructure and domestic value chains.
4.2. Economic Sovereignty and Private-Sector Development
In the context of national policy directions pursued since July 2023, economic sovereignty and the diversification of partnerships have become important elements of Niger’s development strategy.
Efforts to improve the business environment include simplifying administrative procedures, improving access to financing, strengthening electricity supply and developing information technologies.
The private sector is expected to play a major role in wealth creation, employment generation and the development of national resources.
