The Agricultural Bank of Senegal (LBA) announces a first disbursement as part of a program supported by the Green Climate Fund (GCF), aimed at financing agricultural investments adapted to climate change.
According to the Fund’s data, the project amounts to $54.2 million, with $26.23 million provided by the Fund in the form of loans and grants. Co-financing amounts to nearly $28 million. The program includes a credit line and technical assistance to facilitate access to financing for farmers.
The challenge goes beyond the banking sector. Agriculture represents about 15.5% of Senegal’s GDP and engages nearly 60% of the active population, according to a document from the Ministry of Agriculture citing data from the ANSD for 2024.
The program aims to strengthen financing for resilient agricultural practices and reduce emissions related to certain agricultural activities. The amount of the disbursement announced by LBA on Wednesday has not been disclosed.
The GCF data already show disbursements of $1.77 million in March 2026 and $4.19 million in June for this project. The nature of the “first disbursement” announced by the bank therefore deserves to be clarified.
