Ekoué Djro Glokpor, the new national director of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) for Togo, was officially introduced to members of the National Credit Council (CNC) on June 18, 2026. His appointment comes at a time when Togolese authorities and the Central Bank are showing a willingness to better direct financing towards very small, small, and medium-sized enterprises, as well as towards agriculture and housing, all of which are considered strategic segments for the country’s economic transformation.
Beyond the symbolic aspect, Ekoué Djro Glokpor’s appointment confirms him as a true product of the BCEAO. The new head of the Togolese national direction first worked within the National Direction for Togo before moving to the headquarters in Dakar, Senegal. There, he held prominent positions, including as Director of Accounting, then as Director General of Organization and Information Systems, before being appointed as an advisor to the governor.
This change of leadership also marks the end of a brief but significant period that began with Akuwa Dogbe Azoma, who was appointed in December 2023 (succeeding Kossi Tenou, who became a minister in the current Togolese government after a brief stint in Dakar as an advisor to the governor of the BCEAO). She became the first woman to lead the National Direction of the BCEAO in Togo, after a career built at the Dakar headquarters where she held several leadership positions.
Former Director of Systems and Means of Payment at the BCEAO, Akuwa Dogbe Azoma now serves as Deputy Secretary-General of the Banking Commission of the UEMOA.
