By Abdoulaye DIOP, President of the UEMOA Commission
It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death on June 1, 2026 in Dakar of Professor Moustapha Kassé. A renowned economist, he left a mark on the students we were with his competence and scientific rigor.
As the first dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences at Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, his commitment and daily actions contributed to the development of the teaching of economic and management sciences.
A demanding and generous educator, Professor Kassé trained generations of Senegalese and African economists, executives, and decision-makers who now carry his invaluable legacy. His commitment to research and development in Africa will remain a model.
His contribution to the African economic integration process is invaluable. Through his writings and remarkable participation in high-level meetings, he has greatly influenced the progress observed in the current economic spaces of Africa, particularly in West Africa.
In this painful circumstance, we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, loved ones, and the Senegalese, African, and international academic community.
Rest in peace, dear Master, may the earth be light upon you.
