Abidjan, October 22, 2026 – The Regional Stock Exchange (BRVM) will participate in the Africa Financial Summit (AFIS) on November 3 and 4, 2026 in Luanda, Angola. Its Director General, Dr. Edoh Kossi Aménounvé, will speak at the panel “Beyond market interconnection: harmonized listings to unleash cross-border liquidity”. On this occasion, Dr. Aménounvé will defend a conviction forged by thirty years of experience: the integration of African capital markets requires not only the connection of stock exchange infrastructures for listing and post-market, but also increased convergence of rules.
A regional experience serving African integration
As a common financial market for the eight countries of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA), the BRVM offers a concrete experience of regional integration. Its organization is based on common rules, supervision by a single regulator, the AMF-UMOA, and the same settlement-delivery infrastructure. This experience provides a basis for reflecting on the conditions for deeper integration of African stock exchanges. Without being a model to be replicated identically, it illustrates the interest of a common framework to bring issuers and investors closer together beyond national borders in view of the performance of the BRVM.
Initiatives to interconnect African stock exchanges, including the AELP Project, WACMIC, and CoSSE, contribute to accelerating the dynamics of regional and continental rapprochement. To strengthen its scope, the BRVM intends to contribute to the dialogue on the convergence of listing requirements, financial information standards, and easing exchange regulations. The challenge is to facilitate cross-border investments, broaden companies’ access to capital, and offer investors more opportunities on a continental scale. “The future of African capital markets depends on our ability to build more integrated, deeper, and more liquid markets. The interconnection of stock exchanges must be accompanied by a convergence of rules and practices to facilitate the mobilization of savings, broaden companies’ access to financing, and offer investors more opportunities. With thirty years of experience in regional integration, the BRVM intends to contribute to this continental ambition: to make capital markets a major lever for financing the economic transformation and sustainable development of Africa,” says Dr. Edoh Kossi Aménounvé, Director General of the BRVM.
Thirty years of experience, an ambition for 2030
On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, to be celebrated in December 2026, the BRVM intends to use its experience in regional integration to contribute to reflections on the future of African capital markets. This ambition is part of the orientations of its 2026-2030 strategy, which aims in particular at technological modernization and deepening of the regional market. The convergence of rules between African stock exchanges thus becomes a central issue for the BRVM: to contribute to the emergence of more attractive and liquid markets, capable of mobilizing more resources for the financing of the real economy.
