The reinsurance and insurance group Africa Specialty Risks (ASR), specializing in Africa and the Middle East, has announced the appointment of Alexander Milne as Director of International Policies and Partnerships. In his new role, he will be responsible for developing strategic partnerships with governments, development finance institutions, donors, and philanthropic organizations to support ASR’s initiatives in resilience, climate finance, and reducing investment risks in emerging markets.
According to the press release issued on Tuesday, March 17, Alexander Milne will focus on developing ASR’s public-private partnerships to expand insurance solutions, help bridge the protection gap, facilitate investments in emerging economies, and collaborate with governments to address their key resilience challenges. He will work closely with ASR teams and stakeholders in the development and finance ecosystem to maximize the impact of the group’s actions.
Alexander Milne brings over ten years of experience in the British government, where he served as a diplomat on trade, development, and climate finance issues, with a focus on emerging markets in Asia, Latin America, and Africa.
Most recently, he held the position of Co-Head of International Business Development at UK Export Finance, where he led initiatives related to sustainable growth, lower middle-income countries, and intergovernmental partnerships.
Previously, he led TheCityUK’s international activities in several key markets in Central Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, overseeing its sustainable finance actions and participation in COP29. He also spent eight years at the Department for International Trade (DIT), including as National Director for Kenya.
The new director began his career at Lloyd’s of London, where he contributed to business development in markets such as India, Turkey, Mexico, and Russia.
