The governors of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO), Jean-Claude Kassi Brou, and the Central Bank of Central African States (BEAC), Yvon Sana Bangui, held a bilateral meeting on May 6, 2026 in Dakar, at the headquarters of the BCEAO.
This meeting is part of the implementation of the cooperation agreement signed between the two institutions on November 18, 2008 in Dakar, aimed at strengthening the synergy of actions between the two central banks in the face of common challenges.
The two parties reviewed the progress of the action plan adopted in Yaoundé on January 27, 2025 for the period 2025-2026 and evaluated the progress made.
The discussions focused on:
– digital transformation and financial inclusion;
– innovation, cybersecurity, and information systems;
– surveillance, modernization, and interconnection of payment systems and means;
– external financial relations.
The two institutions welcomed the progress made in sharing experiences through regular technical consultations, and reaffirmed their commitment to consolidate this cooperation.
The governors emphasized the importance of this cooperation for the consolidation of monetary and financial stability within UEMOA and CEMAC, as well as for the strengthening of regional financial integration, particularly within the framework of the African Central Banks Association.
The two parties also agreed to strengthen their consultation within regional and international bodies. The next bilateral meeting will be held in 2027 at the headquarters of the BEAC.
At the end of the meeting, the governor of the BEAC expressed his gratitude to the governor of the BCEAO and his teams for the quality of the welcome and the richness of the discussions.
