Estimated at nearly $200 million, trade exchanges between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Turkey could increase in the coming years, against a backdrop of closer relations between the two countries.
Following a meeting on April 18, 2026 between Congolese President Félix-Antoine Tshisekedi and his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the two leaders expressed their willingness to strengthen their strategic partnership. The announced goal is to increase bilateral trade volume to $500 million in the medium term.
Held on the sidelines of the Antalya Diplomatic Forum, discussions between the official delegations identified several priority areas of cooperation, particularly in the economic, commercial, and institutional fields.
Among the announced measures is the relaunch of the DRC-Turkey Joint Commission. Scheduled to take place in Kinshasa during the year, this bilateral body is expected to play a central role in coordinating joint projects and monitoring their implementation, while facilitating exchanges of expertise and investments.
This dynamic is built on already ongoing achievements. Cooperation between the two countries has notably led to the construction of the Kinshasa Financial Center, a complex of around $290 million inaugurated in December 2023, as well as the Kinshasa Arena.
Furthermore, Turkish investors are involved in several key projects in the Tshuapa province. These include road infrastructure, airports in Boende, Bokungu, and Ikela, as well as initiatives in the solar energy sector, according to announcements made between 2025 and 2026.
