At the Paris Air Show, the rating agency Skytrax revealed the highly anticipated results of its global airline ranking. For the seventh consecutive year, Ethiopian Airlines is crowned the best African airline, consolidating its position as a regional leader. However, it ranks 38th globally, far behind the major Asian and Gulf carriers.
This performance is largely based on the efficiency of its Addis Ababa-Bole hub, a true intercontinental platform between Africa and Asia. The terminal is interconnected with a developed hotel offering, with transit facilities, including simplified visa issuance via “vouchers” for connecting passengers.
Behind Ethiopian Airlines, the African ranking is dominated by Air Mauritius, RwandAir, South African Airways, EgyptAir, and Royal Air Maroc (RAM). The latter, which still held the second position in the previous ranking, falls sharply in 2025, placing sixth on the continent and 70th globally, a drop of 15 places compared to 2024 (55th).
This decline could reflect, according to Morocco World News, increased competition or difficulties in maintaining a service level that meets the growing expectations of passengers. However, RAM remains a strategic airline, with a network of over 80 destinations across Morocco, Africa, Europe, North America, and the Middle East. As a member of the Oneworld alliance, it plays a central role in connecting Morocco and West Africa.
2025 Global Ranking: Asian and Gulf domination
Internationally, Qatar Airways retains the top spot, followed by Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific Airways. These airlines stand out for the excellence of their service, onboard comfort, and overall passenger experience.
The Skytrax ranking is based on an independent survey conducted among millions of passengers worldwide. Criteria include cabin service, meal quality, ground operation efficiency, and overall comfort. The results are considered a global reference in the aviation industry, akin to the “Oscars of aviation.”
