New York – Ali Al Shammari, the CEO of Global South Utilities (GSU), the Emirati company specialized in energy infrastructure, was honored at the 2026 Reuters Energy Awards with the “Growth Leader of the Year” award.
This distinction recognizes his leadership in deploying renewable energy projects and large-scale infrastructure, his ability to establish long-term strategic partnerships, and his role in accelerating impactful projects for global South economies.
Under his leadership, Global South Utilities continues to expand in Africa, the Middle East, and Asia, with a growing portfolio of investments in energy infrastructure, power grids, and solutions promoting the transition to a more sustainable energy. The company aims to enhance access to electricity, support the decarbonization of emerging economies, and foster inclusive growth based on resilient infrastructure.
Reacting to this award, Ali Al Shammari stated that it “not only rewards an individual or a company, but reflects the success of an Emirati model based on the belief that sustainable partnerships with global South countries are a key driver of development.”
The Reuters Energy Awards, held annually, are among the most prestigious honors in the global energy industry. They recognize companies, leaders, and initiatives that have made a mark on the sector through innovation, contributions to the energy transition, and impact on sustainable development.
This international recognition extends previous accolades received from the African continent. In January 2026, during the 7th edition of the Financial Afrik Awards in Banjul, Gambia, Ali Al Shammari was awarded the Arab-African Cooperation Award in recognition of his commitment to infrastructure development, energy transition, and strengthening strategic partnerships between Gulf countries and Africa.
