A new chapter opens for the governance of the Ivorian energy sector. Appointed as the Director General of the National Electricity Sector Regulation Authority (ANARE-CI) by decree No. 2026-684 of September 30, 2026, Henri Pépin Krou officially took office on October 13. The handover ceremony took place in Abidjan, under the presidency of Souleymane Soro, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, representing Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly. The new Director General succeeds Amidou Traoré, who was appointed in July to lead the state-owned company CI-Energies.
Continuing the reforms initiated, Henri Pépin Krou praised the achievements of his predecessor while unveiling his directions for the institution. He intends to focus his mandate on modernizing ANARE-CI and strengthening the operational efficiency of regulation. Faced with a rapidly changing market, he reaffirmed his commitment to uphold the principles of transparency, rigor, and fairness in all the arbitration and control missions assigned to the regulatory authority.
At the heart of this roadmap are also the protection of electricity consumers and the preservation of a sustainable economic balance between the various stakeholders in the sector. Passing the baton to his successor, Amidou Traoré expressed his availability to support him and invited all colleagues to provide unwavering support to ensure the success of the regulatory body’s missions.
This transition, it is said, is part of the broader vision of the Ivorian government to strengthen the performance of public energy services. On behalf of Minister Sangafowa-Coulibaly, the ministry representative emphasized the need for all actors in the electrical ecosystem to work closely together. In a context of high socio-economic demand, this institutional harmonization appears as an essential condition to guarantee equitable and sustainable access to electricity for all populations.
