“The Burkina Faso, in order to efficiently manage the acquisition of airline tickets for the benefit of the State and to meet the requirements of public procurement, has just launched its new digital solution, “e-Dimaakia”, on March 24, 2026.
The Ministry of Economy and Finance, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Transition, officially launched the “e-Dimaakia” platform. A new innovation by Burkinabe public administration officials to manage the acquisition of air travel tickets for the benefit of state services in a transparent manner.
Abuses, the volatility of ticket costs, and sometimes exorbitant agency commissions have been identified as elements in the context of the construction of this platform.
The objectives of this digital solution, according to the Director General of Public Procurement Control and Financial Commitments (DGCMEF), Alfred Thiombiano, are, among others, to improve the efficiency and speed of procedures, strengthen transparency and traceability, and optimize costs.
How will it work? “e-Dimaakia” should allow contracting authorities to launch notices for the acquisition of transport tickets and accredited agencies to apply for different competitive bidding notices by submitting their offers. According to the initiators, the platform is designed to automatically select the awardee and automatically generate the contract. Mr. Thiombiano stated that all contracting authorities are concerned (excluding contracting authorities with valid contracts: framework agreements, order contracts, etc.). “Ultimately, a single channel for the acquisition of air transport tickets,” he said.
“Modernizing public action also means learning to manage our resources…”
The launch of this digital transition, put in place to comply with the current authorities’ directives for increased digitalization of public services, was carried out by the Minister in charge of the economy, Dr. Aboubakar Nacanabo, and his colleague in digital transition, Dr. Aminata Zerbo. “Modernizing public action also means learning to manage our resources with the same rigor and precision as guiding an airplane in the air,” justified the Burkina’s finance minister. He invited public administration actors, especially those in the public procurement chain, to “Appropriate e-Dimaakia. Make it your daily tool, a management reflex, a symbol of your commitment to exemplary governance.”
According to some actors, the main challenges would be the effective appropriation of the tool by Public Procurement Directors and their collaborators, the quality of connection and servers, and meeting the often urgent demands of public services.
With this umpteenth platform for digitizing public services, thanks to the combined actions of the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Digital Transition, Burkina has just proven that it can conceive and manage domestic digital solutions.
Some advantages of “e-Dimaakia”:
– Transparency, thanks to full visibility on the purchasing processes;
– Traceability, with a digital memory of all transactions;
– Speed, by significantly reducing processing times;
– Cost optimization, through systematic competition;
– Rationalization of public spending, avoiding drifts and overcosts;
– Professionalization of actors, by establishing clear and fair rules;
– And finally, modernization of public procurement, in line with digital requirements.”
