L’ ambassadrice de la République fédérale d’Ethiopie en Cote d’ivoire, Mesrsha Kassa, a sollicité, mercredi 28 janvier, au nom de son gouvernement, le soutien ivoirien à la candidature du ministre éthiopien des Finances et du Développement, Sufian Ahmed Beker, à la présidence de la Banque africaine de développement (BAD).
«Nous sommes venus présenter au Premier ministre la candidature éthiopienne à la présidence de la BAD» a déclaré l’ambassadeur éthiopien. «L’Ethiopie a connu une croissance rapide comme la Côte d’Ivoire grâce au ministre Beker. Nous espérons que sa présence à la BAD contribuera au développement de l’Afrique», a expliqué à la presse la diplomate éthiopienne au terme de sa rencontre avec le Premier ministre ivoirien, Daniel Kablan Duncan.
Jusque-là silencieux, le doyen des ministres africains des Finances (il est en poste depuis 1992) est resté fidèle à lui même. Ceux qui l’ont fréquenté notent une certaine froideur dans les relations humaines et un mutisme qui lui a valu le surnom de « Boudha » dans les hauteurs des plateaux. L’absence de Sufian Ahmed Beker dans le monde francophone et surtout en Côte d’Ivoire, qui constitue avec le Nigeria, la principale voix de l’Afrique de l’Ouest, a surpris les observateurs. La BAD procèdera à l’élection d’un nouveau président, lors des prochaines assemblées annuelles de l’institution financière panafricaine en mai prochain.
