In the early 1970s, one of Senegal’s flagship achievements was the construction of the Centre International d’Échanges de Dakar (CIED), inaugurated during the first edition of the Foire Internationale de Dakar (FIDAK) (from November 28 to December 15, 1974) by the Poet-President Léopold Sédar Senghor. In his inaugural speech, he stated: “The new, fairer, and more equitable international economic order that we seek to promote can only emerge from a patient and methodical organization of meetings and exchanges.”
The Centre International d’Échanges de Dakar (CIED), whose architecture is inspired by “asymmetrical parallelism,” consists of a Congress Palace—the first of its kind in West Africa—an Exhibition Park, an Economic Information Center, and a National Center for Foreign Trade, which housed the Senegalese Center for Foreign Trade
