Ecobank Kenya has appointed Rebecca M. Mbithi as Managing Director effective February 9, 2026, subject to approval from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK), according to an announcement made on Wednesday 11 by the Togo-based banking group’s subsidiary. She succeeds Josephine Anan-Ankomah, who now holds the position of Regional Director for Central, Eastern, and Southern Africa (CESA) at Ecobank, overseeing 17 markets, including Kenya.
Former Managing Director of Family Bank Limited, Mbithi brings over 20 years of experience in the financial services and other sectors. She has also served as a director at NCBA Kenya and as Vice President of the Kenya Bankers Association.
Ecobank Kenya’s Acting Chairman, Yesse Oenga, stated that the board was confident in her ability to enhance the bank’s performance and governance.
Under Anan-Ankomah’s three-year tenure, Ecobank Kenya significantly improved its financial results, with pre-tax profit increasing from 132.9 million Kenyan shillings (850,000 USD) in 2022 to 734 million KSh (4.8 million USD) in the third quarter of 2025. The bank also raised its core capital to 8.8 billion KSh (57 million USD) in September 2025, exceeding revised regulatory requirements until 2028.
The group, led by CEO Jeremy Awori, stated that transition arrangements were in place to ensure operational continuity in Kenya.
