On November 18, 2025, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, H.E. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, received Constant Nemale, the founder and president of the Africa24 group, in Malabo. This meeting marks a symbolic reunion after a period of distance between two personalities who were behind the launch of Africa 24 in 2008 as a tool for promoting the Pan-African vision, which has become a leading media outlet on Africa over the past 17 years.
Over the years, differences had emerged regarding the editorial and strategic direction of Africa24. It was criticized from Malabo for having strayed from the original vision, a criticism that Constant Nemale publicly acknowledged. Focused on the concept of “endogenous Pan-Africanism”, Equatorial Guinea, by decision of President Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, had supported the project from the beginning, believing that it should amplify the voice of Africa and reflect the unity of the continent’s peoples through a grounded territorial presence.
Taking advantage of a mutual willingness to address misunderstandings and an African tradition of listening to elders, Constant Nemale requested an official audience to better understand grievances and present his apologies for the differences to the Head of State. President Obiang accepted them, emphasizing the importance of the gesture and the need for all project stakeholders to share the same guiding principles. He reiterated that Africa24’s Pan-African mission extends beyond Equatorial Guinea’s borders to contribute to the strengthening of African integration and unity.
In his statements following the audience, Constant Nemale praised the crucial role played by Equatorial Guinea in Africa24’s history and highlighted the regional and continental influence of President Obiang’s Pan-African ideology: “What is happening today in several African countries demonstrates the realization of the ideals that the President has been advocating for years,” he declared.
Despite operational challenges encountered, Africa24 has evolved in its development and expanded its programming. The Africa24 group has become the leading publisher of premium channels in Africa, now broadcasting in French and English, offering sports content with Africa24 Sport, and giving increasing importance to youth with Africa24 Infinity, in line with the longstanding vision of the Head of State in favor of educating the new African generations. Constant Nemale stressed the need to remain faithful to the project’s founding principles: “We cannot go far if the project’s creator is not with us. We have received your advice and integrated it to continue moving forward. Countries like Cameroon have already joined the project, and the goal is for all African countries, businesses, and major institutions to participate.”
Before concluding, the President of the Africa24 Group expressed gratitude for the constant support of the Vice President of the Republic, responsible for Security and Defense, Teodoro Obiang Mangue, since the channel’s creation.
This meeting marks a new chapter for Africa24: a return to dialogue, a clarification of positions, and a reaffirmation of the Pan-African foundations that guided its establishment. A decisive step in the face of technological challenges and the dominance of Western media. The Africa24 Group is the only 100% African media group in terms of financing and capital that has established itself with international standards. A status that merits the support of all decision-makers on the continent. The gesture and commitment of Equatorial Guinea and its President demonstrate that Africa24 has become the true strategic asset of an entire continent.
