New face at the helm of the Central Bank of the Congo (BCC). By presidential decree made public this Wednesday, July 23, André Wameso was officially appointed governor of the issuing institute, succeeding Malangu Kabedi Mbuyi.
This appointment marks a new milestone in the career of a technocrat known for his rigor and expertise in economic management. Until his appointment, André Wameso held the position of deputy chief of staff to the head of state, in charge of economic and financial issues. Before joining the Presidency in April 2021, Mr. Wameso had been one of the five roving ambassadors of the head of state, responsible for diplomatic and economic missions around the world. Originally from Songololo, in Kongo-Central, he had also been elected as a national deputy, but relinquished the position in order to retain his responsibilities within the presidential cabinet.
A graduate in business engineering from the Catholic University of Louvain (Belgium), with a specialization in finance, André Wameso built a solid career in the financial sector before entering the high political sphere. He has notably been in charge of risk management at Rawbank and Dexia Investment Company, as well as director of internal audit at Dexia Holding, where he oversaw internal controls, compliance, and risk assessment on an international scale.
His appointment at the helm of the Central Bank of the Congo comes at an important moment for the national economy, in a context of inflationary pressure and monetary reform.
