Air Algérie announced on Friday, July 4, 2025 that it has placed an order for 16 new ATR 72-600 aircraft and an ATR 72-600 flight simulator, the first of its kind in Africa, with manufacturer ATR. This is a record order, as it is the largest order ever placed by ATR with an African operator.
The last deliveries of ATR aircraft to Air Algérie were in 2008 and 2014. The deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled between 2026 and 2028. These ATR 72-600 aircraft, equipped with PW127XT engines, will have 72 seats and will be operated by a new regional subsidiary of Air Algérie called Domestic Airlines. This new entity will be responsible for domestic flights, particularly to the south of Algeria.
Air Algérie, the largest ATR customer in Africa, has been operating ATR aircraft since 2003. Its current fleet includes 12 ATR 72-500 and 3 ATR 72-600 aircraft. Deliveries of the new aircraft are scheduled between 2026 and 2028.
