The Moroccan tourism sector has achieved an unprecedented performance, with 7.2 million visitors welcomed between January and May 2025. This sustained growth is the result of a proactive strategy, as indicated in a statement from the ministry in charge.
This figure represents a 22% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with an additional 1.3 million tourists. Compared to 2019, this represents a 68% increase, according to data provided by the Ministry of Tourism.
Classified hotel establishments recorded 8.5 million overnight stays in 2024, representing approximately 30% of the total overnight stays. This momentum continued in the first four months of 2025 with over 2 million overnight stays recorded, a 4% increase compared to the previous year.
For Moroccan authorities, this progress reflects the enhanced attractiveness of the destination “Morocco,” driven by the implementation of a roadmap with a budget of 6.1 billion dirhams. This aims to improve air connectivity, intensify the country’s international promotion, and stimulate investment in a more diverse tourism offering.
The Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy, Fatim-Zahra Ammor, emphasized that the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap places the domestic market at the heart of sector development, with particular attention to beach tourism and nature-based tourism. “These encouraging results confirm Morocco’s trajectory towards the ambitious goal of attracting 26 million tourists by 2030,” she stated.
In just the first four months of 2025, the kingdom attracted 5.7 million visitors (+23% compared to 2024). The number of tourist overnight stays exceeded 9 million (+15%), while foreign exchange earnings reached 34.4 billion dirhams, representing a 7.5% growth.
