For the first time, an Olympic competition is taking place on the African continent. For two weeks, Dakar, Diamniadio, and Saly will showcase an event whose stakes go far beyond sports performance: infrastructure, tourism, economy, international visibility, and legacy for African youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Ten Essential Facts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. A historic first for Africa.<\/strong> Designated in 2018 by the IOC, Senegal will host the fourth edition of the Summer YOG, following Singapore (2010), Nanjing (2014), and Buenos Aires (2018). Initially scheduled for 2022, the Games were postponed to 2026 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>2. Two weeks of competitions.<\/strong> The Games will take place from October 31 to November 13, 2026, with some events starting on October 30. The official opening ceremony is scheduled for this Saturday at the Abdoulaye-Wade Stadium in Diamniadio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>3. Three geographical hubs.<\/strong> Dakar will host athletics, swimming, and 3&#215;3 basketball; Diamniadio will concentrate several indoor competitions as well as the Olympic Village; Saly will host beach sports and certain water disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. A sports program adapted to the African context.<\/strong> The 25 competitive sports include beach wrestling, beach handball, baseball5, breaking, futsal, and wushu, in addition to traditional Olympic disciplines. Full gender parity.<\/strong> The IOC announces an equal distribution of quotas between girls and boys, with 73 male events, 73 female events, and seven mixed events. This is a budget envelope, not the total consolidated cost of the Games.
