Congo Terminal, a subsidiary of AGL (Africa Global Logistics), is continuing the construction\u00a0 of the East Quay, which began in 2024. This new port infrastructure, scheduled to come into\u00a0 operation in the first half of 2027, will increase the Port of Pointe-Noire\u2019s capacity to receive\u00a0 and handle containers, using 100 per cent electric handling equipment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

With a draught of -17 metres, the East Quay will be able to accommodate large-capacity\u00a0 container ships, up to 400 metres in length and with a capacity of 24,000 TEU. These\u00a0 specifications reflect the increasing size of vessels operating on major international shipping\u00a0 routes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The future terminal will be operated using electric cargo-handling equipment, including ship to-shore (STS) cranes, electric reach stackers (e-RTGs) and electric harbour tractors. This\u00a0 configuration aims to reduce direct emissions associated with cargo-handling operations\u00a0 compared with the use of equivalent equipment powered by internal combustion engines.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The site will cover 27 hectares and will incorporate several systems designed to manage\u00a0 resources and effluent. The administrative building will include a solar hot water system as well\u00a0 as equipment enabling the reuse of certain types of water. Water collected on site will be\u00a0 treated before discharge in accordance with the provisions set out in the terminal\u2019s operating\u00a0 procedures.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

From the design stage, the project has incorporated objectives to minimise energy and water\u00a0 consumption. The administrative building has been designed to meet the criteria for EDGE\u00a0 Advanced certification, for which an assessment is currently underway.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

M\u00f4le Est forms part of Congo Terminal\u2019s investment programme aimed at adapting Pointe Noire\u2019s port infrastructure to developments in maritime transport and the growth in\u00a0 containerised freight flows. Its commissioning is expected to increase the terminal\u2019s\u00a0 operational capacity and support the logistical needs of the customers served by the port.<\/span><\/p>\n
