Announced during the board meeting on July 6, 2026, the appointment of Emmanuel N. Nnorom as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the United Bank for Africa (UBA) is now effective. It came into effect on August 21, when Tony Elumelu left the board after reaching the twelve-year limit set by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for non-executive directors of the country’s banks.<\/p>\n

According to a statement from the group dated Wednesday, August 26, this appointment marks Mr. Nnorom’s return to the helm of the governance body of the pan-African banking group, after holding various positions within the institution. He notably led UBA Africa, overseeing the group’s subsidiaries’ activities on the continent.<\/p>\n

Prior to this new appointment, he served on UBA’s board as a non-executive director – a role he had held since April 2024 – after also holding positions as Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Executive Director in charge of Finance and Risk.<\/p>\n

Outside of UBA, Emmanuel N. Nnorom currently serves as Group Chief Executive Officer of Heirs Holdings (since June 2017) and previously served as President and CEO of Transnational Corporation of Nigeria (Transcorp), where he oversaw various activities in energy and hospitality.<\/p>\n

An accountant and Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), he has over forty years of experience in banking, finance, auditing, and corporate governance. He is also a graduate of Templeton College – now part of the Sa\u00efd Business School – at the University of Oxford, and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN).<\/p>\n

UBA operates in 20 African countries as well as in the United Kingdom, United States, France, and the United Arab Emirates.<\/p>\n
