Before facing each other on the field, Switzerland and Algeria are already engaged in a close duel in the columns of statistics. Size of the economy, wealth per capita, growth, inflation, employment: on the field of aggregates, the two nations come with very different weapons. On one side, the precise and prosperous Swiss machinery. On the other, the Algerian push, younger, wider, faster.<\/p>\n

As they enter this Round of 16, Switzerland presents itself with the thickness of an economic favorite. With a GDP of 1,040 billion USD in 2025, the Confederation operates in a different dimension than Algeria, credited with 287.03 billion. The gap is even more spectacular when considered per capita: 114,769 dollars of wealth produced per head for the Swiss, compared to 6,051 dollars for the Algerians. On the match sheet, it looks like a confrontation between an ultra-technical midfield and a team still under construction, but full of energy.<\/p>\n

But the match is not just about the scoreboard. Because Algeria arrives with more momentum. Its growth is expected to be 3.8% in 2025, while Switzerland is advancing at 1.3%. The pace is not the same: on one side, a mature, established economy that manages its weak periods; on the other, a developing country that runs faster to gain ground. And then there is the number: 47.4 million inhabitants for Algeria, against 9.09 million for Switzerland. In the stands as well as in the domestic market, Algeria plays with a different density.<\/p>\n

The question of balances remains. Once again, Switzerland displays a better organized defense: contained inflation at 0.2% and unemployment at 4.9%. Algeria also keeps its prices in check, with inflation at 1.4%, but remains more under pressure on employment, with an unemployment rate of 11.6%. In short, the Swiss economy concedes little space; the Algerian one creates movement, but still leaves openings.<\/p>\n

Before kick-off, the accounts clearly give the advantage to Switzerland, richer, more stable, denser. But Algeria arrives with volume, speed, and a momentum that numbers do not always suffice to contain. In economy as in football, the favorite has the balance sheets; the underdog, sometimes, has the momentum.<\/p>\n
