The only candidate in the running during the elective general assembly held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 in Kinshasa, the Congolese sports leader was elected with 60 votes out of 65 voters, against 3 opposing votes and 2 blank ballots. He thus begins a four-year term at the helm of the top body of Congolese football.

Following the vote, the new president expressed his desire to restructure the institution in order to sustainably revive national football. “With my committee, we will structure ourselves to ensure the development of Congolese football,” he declared. His arrival comes at a time marked by high expectations for the modernization of sports governance, improvement of administrative performance, and recovery of national competitions.

A governance focused on institutional reform

Born in 1970 in Kinshasa, Véron Mosengo-Omba is a trained lawyer with confirmed experience in international football bodies. He served as Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) from March 2021 to March 2026, before resigning to run for the presidency of FECOFA. Prior to his time at CAF, he joined the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) in 2016, where he notably led the member associations division for Africa and the Caribbean, while overseeing the FIFA Forward program.

This trajectory gives his mandate both an institutional and strategic dimension. The new president intends to make FECOFA a structure more aligned with international governance standards, with a focus in the first year on modernizing procedures, conducting internal audits, and administrative restructuring.

A $25.6 million investment plan

Financially, Véron Mosengo-Omba plans to mobilize an estimated total amount of $25.6 million, coming from FIFA, CAF, the Congolese government, as well as the federation’s own resources. His program revolves around four priority areas: institutional reform of FECOFA, grassroots football development, modernization of sports infrastructure, and strengthening the competitiveness of clubs and the national team, the Leopards.

Beyond the sporting dimension, this roadmap reflects a broader ambition to structure the economy of Congolese football. The program notably emphasizes investment in the training of young talents, the development of local competitions, as well as the construction and rehabilitation of sports infrastructure and technical centers across the country. Ultimately, the goal is to create a more attractive environment for institutional partners, sponsors, and investors in the sector.

The new executive committee of FECOFA includes José Dayoni Wawa as first vice president, Amadou Diaby as second vice president, Lolo Mosango as third vice president, and Véronique Singa as fourth vice president. Several members complete this leadership team, including Geneviève Lukusa, Solange Masumbuko, Chadrack Ngiama, Jean Kamuena, Innocent Lelo, Jeff Kapondo, Daudet Mputu, Adolphe Nkoy, Éric Kalala, and Dieudonné Kashiko.

The Congolese Football Association (FECOFA) is entering a new phase in its history with the election of Véron Mosengo-Omba as president of the executive committee.
