According to a statement released on May 6 by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), the general index of consumer prices at the national level stood at 287.9 points, representing a monthly increase of 1.2% compared to March 2026.<\/p>\n<p>This monthly increase is explained by the rise in prices of several essential products, including vegetables (+5.1%), fruits (+3.8%), fish and seafood (+1.8%), cereals and bread (+1.4%), as well as oils and fats (+1.2%).<\/p>\n<p>Housing also contributed to this increase, with a 5.4% increase in actual rents, a 2.5% increase in prices of electricity, gas and other fuels, and a 2.6% increase in housing maintenance and repair costs.<\/p>\n<p>In services, transport fares increased by 5.1%, postal services by 4.2%, hospital services by 3.5%, and organized tourist trips by 5.4%.
