On Friday, March 27, 2026, marking the official opening of the presidential campaign in Benin, candidate Romuald Wadagni chose the department of Alibori to lay the groundwork for his societal project. Through a series of meetings in Kandi, Banikoara, and S\u00e9gbana, the former Minister of Economy and Finance articulated his vision around three strategic pillars: the transformation of the agricultural production system, social protection, and better access to regional markets. The stated objective is to make Northern Benin a true logistical and commercial hub for the West African market.<\/p>\n

An agricultural revolution backed by social protection<\/p>\n

Alibori, considered the granary of Benin, is at the center of a strategy to upgrade agribusiness. To facilitate the daily lives of cotton, maize, and rice producers, the Wadagni Talata program relies on intensive mechanization of the production system. The challenge is to move from subsistence agriculture to semi-industrial exploitation capable of meeting the growing regional demand.<\/p>\n

However, for the candidate, this productivity cannot be sustainable without a profound reform of the social conditions in rural areas. This is why the establishment of an agricultural pension was warmly welcomed by the populations who came to listen to the candidate.<\/p>\n

By creating a provident fund dedicated to farmers, herders, and market women, the candidate duo aims to formalize the rural economy and provide unprecedented financial security in the face of life and climate uncertainties. This measure aims to stabilize incomes and make the agricultural sector more attractive for long-term investments.<\/p>\n

Sabi Gounou, a farmer interviewed after the meeting in Segbana, testifies: “I am proud that he came to launch his campaign with us. It is a sign of importance. He talked about the potential with Nigeria, security, and agricultural economy. He is a man who knows our region.”<\/p>\n

Security and logistics: making Alibori a hub for regional interconnection<\/p>\n

The second part of this electoral offensive concerns security and commercial influence. In a region marked by major defense issues, Romuald Wadagni reaffirmed his commitment to strengthen the state’s presence. The project includes a massive modernization of the armed forces with the acquisition of cutting-edge equipment and the deployment of a reinforced community police. This security stability is presented as an essential prerequisite to unleash the potential of all local entrepreneurs and secure commercial corridors.<\/p>\n

By making Kandi a central hub and S\u00e9gbana an entry point to Nigeria, the candidate is counting on interconnection with neighboring countries to accelerate exchanges.
