This update confirms the growing importance of the digital payment ecosystem in the Union, with <strong>62 institutions spread across the eight member countries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A progressive and balanced expansion throughout the Union<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Senegal<\/strong> leads with <strong>15 participants<\/strong>, followed by <strong>Ivory Coast (13)<\/strong> and <strong>Mali (8)<\/strong>. <strong>Burkina Faso<\/strong> has 7 institutions, <strong>Togo<\/strong> 6, <strong>Benin<\/strong> 5, and finally <strong>Guinea-Bissau<\/strong> and <strong>Niger<\/strong> with 4 each.<br>This distribution illustrates BCEAO&#8217;s commitment to ensuring balanced regional coverage, promoting interoperability and financial inclusion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Dominant players in the network<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The major banking groups in the region &#8211; <strong>Bank of Africa (BOA)<\/strong>, <strong>Coris Bank International<\/strong>, <strong>Ecobank<\/strong>, and <strong>Orabank<\/strong> &#8211; are present in <strong>all Union countries<\/strong>, confirming their leading role in the digital transformation of payments. Microfinance institutions and fintechs such as <strong>Baobab<\/strong>, <strong>Cofina<\/strong>, <strong>Mobile Cash SA<\/strong>, <strong>Touchpoint Financial Services<\/strong>, and mobile money operators (<strong>Orange Money<\/strong>, <strong>Moov Money<\/strong>, <strong>Orange Finances Mobiles<\/strong>) complement the ecosystem, reinforcing the convergence between traditional finance and digital finance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A mature regional architecture<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Launched by BCEAO to modernize payments in UEMOA, PI-SPI allows <strong>instant transactions 24\/7<\/strong> between banks, electronic money institutions, and approved microfinance institutions. The increasing number of actors offering services to the public is a crucial step towards <strong>full interoperability<\/strong> of electronic payments in the region, and towards reducing cash usage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A key step towards financial integration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With this updated list, BCEAO confirms the <strong>industrialization phase<\/strong> of the system, marking a turning point for local and regional banks.
