The announcement of the change, made on October 28, 2021 after 17 years in business, responds to the group’s ambition to expand Facebook’s reach, and is made in response to accusations against the brand.

“The past five years have been a lesson in humility for me and our company in many ways. One of the main lessons I’ve learned is that it’s not enough to make products that people love, ”said Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of one of America’s biggest tech companies in a letter released Thursday evening. .

We can say that now the focus is on the future, renaming his company Meta. Since according to media reports, this is a way for the company to break away from the bad reputation of the blue-logo social network, while capitalizing on its new metaverse.

On the other hand, Marck Zuckerberg believes this is a new challenge for history. Perhaps, this new challenge will inevitably go through a new chapter in order to bring to life the best possible version of this future.

“I understand better that the history of the Internet is not simple. Each chapter brings new voices and new ideas, but also new challenges, risks and disruptions to established interests. We will have to work together, from the start, to bring to life the best possible version of that future, ”he said.

Accused of putting profits before humans

For the CEO of Facebook, the metaverse is the next frontier for connecting people, just like social media was when “we started.” He added, “Building social apps will always be important to us, and there is a lot more to be created. But more and more, that’s not all we do. In our DNA, we build the technology to bring people together ”.

As a reminder, the tech giant is notably accused of putting profits before humans by whistleblower Frances Haugen and many elected officials of the United States Senate.

A few years ago, Mark Zuckerberg promised to change the name of the parent company of Facebook, of which he is the founder and CEO.
