Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Abdoulaye Diop has announced that a United Nations Security Council delegation will pay an official visit to Bamako on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 October 2021.<\/p>\n

In his press release published on Thursday 21, the head of Malian diplomacy specified that the main objective of this UN mission is “to assess the political, security, humanitarian, human rights, development, and calendar situation. of the transition as well as the state of implementation of the priority measures of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation resulting from the Algiers process by the signatory parties \u201d.<\/p>\n

In addition, the UN delegation planned, during its stay, meetings with the transitional authorities, the staff of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), the various parties involved in the implementation of implementation of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation resulting from the Algiers process, as well as with other national and international actors in the Malian crisis.<\/p>\n

This mission is announced after the Malian authorities have raised doubts about their ambition to extend the duration of the transition. In fact, the government has wanted, in recent weeks, the postponement of the first rounds of the presidential and legislative elections scheduled for February 27, 2022. Therefore, an extension of the period of the current transitional period in this West African country since the 15th September 2020, following the coup d’\u00e9tat of August 18, 2020.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, since the adoption in 2013 of Security Council resolution 2100 creating MINUSMA, a framework for regular consultations has been established between the government of Mali and the United Nations.<\/p>\n

According to diplomatic sources, after the Bamako stage, the UN delegation will go to Niamey, Niger with the same program and the same agenda, the assessment of the political and security situation.<\/p>\n
