The 27th Congress of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) has been held since Monday, August 9 in Abidjan. This work should lead to the adoption of the “Abidjan Postal Strategy” for the development of postal services throughout the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe ended up believing that Congress was fleeing the continent. But today, it can be said that the Indian sign has been defeated. Africa is finally hosting this major Congress for the postal industry in Abidjan. What an honor and what pride for an entire continent and for a country! “, Welcomed the Ivorian Prime Minister Patrick Achi, who chaired, this Monday, August 9 in Abidjan, the 27th congress of the Universal Postal Union (Upu) which brings together 192 member countries.<\/p>\n

Second African country to organize this event 87 years after Egypt, C\u00f4te D\u2019Ivoire, according to Patrick Achi, also has the distinction of being the first country in sub-Saharan Africa and post independence to host this event. Which will give the opportunity to take stock of the implementation of the 2017-2020 strategy of the Universal Postal Union and to define the \u201cAbidjan Postal Strategy\u201d, over the period 2021-2024, for the development of services postal services on all continents. “Obviously, this new strategy will have to take into account recent developments and the lessons learned from the management of Covid-19, a pandemic which has had a strong impact on the economic and industrial environment of the post office and requires, everywhere, an adjustment of services and their financial balances, \u201dsaid the head of the Ivorian government.<\/p>\n

UPU Director General Bishar Hussein reaffirmed the validity of the Post, which was behind the creation of e-mail. Despite the presence of these new tools, \u201cthe international postal sector has undergone incredible changes over the past 18 months. Some governments declaring the post as critical infrastructure. In many jurisdictions, governments have used the post to deliver essential services, including drugs and Covid-19 vaccines, \u201dsaid Bishar Hussein.<\/p>\n

Adding that under his leadership, the UPU has however initiated major institutional and administrative reforms through an assessment of the Union’s risks and the identification of the ten major risks and the development of a strategic plan to deal with them one by one. a. For him, “the overall objective has been to address the role and relevance of the Union and to find ways of sustaining it to best meet the needs of the members and those of the postal industry”. And “thanks to the support of the members, we have achieved significant successes in our reform mission and on all the objectives that have been assigned to us”, rejoiced the Director General of Upu.<\/p>\n
