The World Bank will disburse USD 100 million in connection with the Emergency Project for Equity and Strengthening of the Education System (PERSE) of the Ministry of Primary, Secondary and Technical Education, according to correspondence addressed to Minister Tony Mwaba, the May 26, 2021, by Jean Christophe Carret, the institution’s director of operations in DR Congo.<\/p>\n

During his meeting on May 21, 2021 with the Minister of PTSD who had provided him with evidence from the Congolese government in compliance with the withdrawal conditions announced in the financing agreement, Jean-Christophe Carret had ensured the availability of the Bank world to make a contribution to the reform of free basic education in the DRC.<\/p>\n

Meeting in Washington on June 15, 2020, the Board of Directors of the World Bank Group approved funding totaling USD 1 billion from the International Development Association (IDA) to improve human capital in the DRC. . This funding includes USD 800 million for the Equity and Education System Strengthening Project (PERSE) and USD 200 million of additional funding for the Health System Strengthening Project (PDSS) to improve maternal health and infantile.<\/p>\n

“By supporting free primary education and improved maternal and child health in the poorest provinces of the country, these two projects aim to help the most vulnerable populations access basic services. This funding is all the more important as it will make it possible to mitigate the economic and social consequences of the coronavirus for the poorest, \u201dunderlined Jean-Christophe Carret, also in charge of the Republic of Congo, the Central African Republic and the Burundi.<\/p>\n

This funding supports, in particular, the project for equity and strengthening of the education system (PERSE) which aims to improve access to primary education in 10 provinces and strengthen basic education systems. The provinces selected are North Kivu, South Kivu, Ituri, Lomami, Kasai, Kasai Central, Kasai Oriental, Kwilu, Kongo Central and Kinshasa.<\/p>\n
