The telecoms giant has announced that it is starting its first commercial installation of its new service.<\/p>\n<p>Since announcing the solution&#8217;s launch in February 2021, the group has said it has received more than 20,000 expressions of interest, with the goal of connecting 60,000 homes in the first year. \u201cAirFibre serves as an alternative to the labor-intensive deployment of cabled fiber, using MTN&#8217;s existing receiving network,\u201d explained Calvin Collett, director of MTN SA Supersonic, adding that \u201cthe technology uses existing open spectrum frequencies, which can reduce the cost of service to customers \u201d.<\/p>\n<p>This, MTN points out, is uncapped premium technology ranging from 5 Mbps to 100 Mbps, which allows users to access the Internet as a full-fiber experience.<\/p>\n<p>According to the International Telecommunication Union, only 17% of the rural population live in areas without mobile coverage.
