Nigeria will receive 3.92 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine this Tuesday, March 2, according to an announcement made by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA) in charge of the vaccination campaign against Covid-19 in the country.<\/p>\n

“We are fully prepared to receive and deliver the vaccine to eligible Nigerians as we have started training health workers and making sure chain facilities are ready at all levels,” said Faisal Shuiab, the head of the Agency.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have a powerful chain system that can store all types of Covid-19 vaccine at the required temperature. We are therefore confident that we will have a very effective deployment of the vaccine, starting with the health workers who are on the front line to provide the care we all need, \u201dhe added in a joint statement with the UNICEF and WHO.<\/p>\n

For his part, UNICEF Nigeria Representative Peter Hawkins said the COVAX initiative \u201chas worked very hard to ensure that Nigeria receives the vaccine as quickly as possible so that it can start its vaccine program. vaccination among the largest population in Africa \u201d.<\/p>\n

Nigeria is among the countries that will receive the largest number of vaccine (16 million doses) during the first half of 2021, according to a document published on February 3, 2021 by the Covax device.<\/p>\n

As a reminder, the National Agency for the Development of Primary Health Care announced last week the training of more than 12,000 health workers for this vaccination campaign. The country declared the first case of the disease on February 27, 2020, and to date has more than 155,000 cases including 1,907 deaths.<\/p>\n
