Senegal’s total cereal production fell by 120,224 tonnes at the end of the 2019-2020 crop year compared to the 2018-2019 crop year, according to data established by the Department of Analysis, Forecasting and Statistics. (DAPSA) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Equipment.<\/p>\n

The final results for the crop year under review show cereal production of 2.768 million tonnes against 2.899 million tonnes in 2018-2019, a decline of 4.14%. The total area of \u200b\u200bsown areas fell by 28,542 hectares, going from 1,757,666 hectares in 2018-2019 to 1,729,124 hectares a year later.<\/p>\n

In Senegal’s total cereal production, that of rice (irrigated, rainfed and off-season) is preponderant with an achievement of 1,155,730 tonnes against 1,206,587 tonnes for the 2018-2019 campaign, i.e. a drop of 50,857 tonnes. Millet production comes second in terms of importance with 807,044 tonnes compared to 897,348 tonnes in 2018-2019, a decrease of 90,304 tonnes.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, with 580,705 tonnes, maize production increased by 45,002 tonnes compared to its level in the 2018-2019 crop year.<\/p>\n

For its part, sorghum production fell by 25,295 tonnes, from 295,463 tonnes in 2018-2019 to 270,168 tonnes during the season under review. Although marginal, fonio production increased sharply from 1,230 tonnes to 5,151 tonnes from 3,921 tonnes at the end of the 2018-2019 crop year.<\/p>\n
