{"id":467561,"date":"2019-12-05T16:29:55","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T15:29:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kapitalafrik.com\/?p=467561"},"modified":"2019-12-05T16:29:55","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T15:29:55","slug":"stakeholders-resolve-to-leave-no-youth-behind-in-africa","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.financialafrik.com\/en\/2019\/12\/05\/stakeholders-resolve-to-leave-no-youth-behind-in-africa\/","title":{"rendered":"Stakeholders resolve to leave no youth behind in Africa"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-bottom-left\"><\/div><p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Organizers of the 14th African Economic Conference (AEC2019) &#8211; African Development Bank (AfDB), Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), and the United Nations Development Programme(UNDP) &#8211; have reaffirmed their commitment to engage Africa\u2019s youth as an integral part of the continent\u2019s development initiatives.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cWe must stop assuming that we can solve their problems in their absence,\u201d said Adam Elhiraika, Director of Macroeconomics and Governance at the ECA, in his AEC2019 closing remarks on 4 December in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThey have made us understand over the past three days that all they want is to be part of the decisions that affect their daily lives. We must, therefore, put them at the centre of every development policy at both national and regional levels,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For Angela Lusigi, UNDP Africa\u2019s Strategic Advisor, AEC2019 \u201chas contributed to a new understanding of Africa&#8217;s youth in the context of Africa&#8217;s present and bright future as our long-awaited disrupters and innovators.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms Lusigi said her organization was \u201ccommitted to connecting and upscaling our interventions towards creating the 100 million jobs needed\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Discussions at AEC2019 focused on \u201cJobs, Entrepreneurship and Capacity Development for African Youths\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">AfDB\u2019s Director for Macroeconomic Policy, Forecasting and Research &#8211; Hanan Morsy &#8211; stated, \u201cThere\u2019s nothing more important for our continent\u2019s policymakers than the subject of jobs for our youth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ms Morsy was of the view that \u201cAfrica\u2019s jobs problem cannot be solved by any single entity,\u201d but that there was need for concerted efforts amongst nations, development partners, public and private sectors, researchers, and other stakeholders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ECA\u2019s Elhiraika pointed out that the Commission remains supportive of \u201cproductive collaborations\u201d such as the AEC where discussions and recommendations can sustainably uplift member states and youths in particular.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">He challenged young Africas to \u201ccontribute to our continental integration agenda,\u201d because \u201ccreating a united Africa is the most important step towards creating greater opportunities for all Africans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The three-day event featured a joint launch of the Africa Sustainable Development Report 2019 (AfDB, ECA, UNDP), and ECA\u2019s Economic Report on Africa 2019.
