{"id":466996,"date":"2019-09-11T13:45:21","date_gmt":"2019-09-11T12:45:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kapitalafrik.com\/?p=466996"},"modified":"2019-09-11T13:45:21","modified_gmt":"2019-09-11T12:45:21","slug":"remittances-to-eccas-the-drc-gets-the-lions-share","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.financialafrik.com\/en\/2019\/09\/11\/remittances-to-eccas-the-drc-gets-the-lions-share\/","title":{"rendered":"Remittances to ECCAS: the DRC gets the lion&#8217;s share"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-bottom-left\"><\/div><p>The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the country that has received most remittances in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) in 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Congolese migrants sent $ 1.405 billion (833.4 billion CFA francs), or 69 percent of the global sum of US $ 2.036 billion (about CFAF 1.186 billion).<\/p>\n<p>This is what emerges from the report, called &#8220;Overview of Remittances in ECCAS Countries&#8221;, which reached the press on Thursday 5 September.<\/p>\n<p>According to the document, Cameroon comes second with $ 345 million (17%), or 201 billion FCFA.<\/p>\n<p>It is followed by Rwanda, 230 million dollars (11.3%), Burundi 36 million dollars (1.7%). And finally Sao Tome and Principe 17 million dollars (0.83%).<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the study shows that over a period from 2008 to 2010, remittances in this area amounted to 12, 904 billion dollars (nearly 7 523 billion FCFA).<\/p>\n<p>It is still the DRC that occupies the first place with 8, 196 billion dollars (4 778 billion CFA francs), or 63.5% of the total amount. Cameroon is also in second place with 2, 129 billion (1,241 billion FCFA), or 16.5% of the total.<\/p>\n<p>It should be noted that this report was funded by the Secretariat in charge of the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) and the European Commission.<\/p>\n<p>Created in October 1983, ECCAS currently has 11 member states namely Angola, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, DR Congo, Rwanda, Sao Tome &amp; Principe and Chad.<\/p>\n<div class=\"pdfprnt-buttons pdfprnt-buttons-post pdfprnt-top-bottom-left\"><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is the country that has received most remittances in the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) in 2018.
