In Togo, the next legislative elections will be held before November 30, 2018, according to a wish expressed Wednesday, June 27 by the facilitators of the dialogue to end the political crisis in the country.<\/p>\n

In a statement issued on the evening of the new round of talks, Ghanaian Presidents Nana Akufo-Addo and Guinea-Bissau Alpha Cond\u00e9 hailed “the agreement between the parties for the continuation of parliament’s activities in accordance with the constitution beyond the due date “.<\/p>\n

During this period, the statement continues, “the preparations for the elections remain suspended, given that it is desirable that these elections be held before the end of November 2018”.<\/p>\n

For its part, the executive announced that it was working for the elections on the dates indicated by ECOWAS. “The government has a responsibility that is not identical to that of political parties. At some point, and of course, the horizon is set for the end of November 2018, it is important that the government can fully assume its responsibilities by ensuring that elections that come from a constitutional deadline, including legislative elections, can to be organized. And that will be the case, “said Gilbert Bawara, the minister of the civil service and the government’s focal point for dialogue.<\/p>\n

The mandate of the deputies ends on 19 August 2018, and the Constitutional Court asked the Electoral Commission and the government “to take the necessary measures to organize the parliamentary elections before the end of 2018”. An outlet that was not to the liking of the opposition, which had described it as “an excuse for the Government to allow it to organize, in a rush, an umpteenth electoral coup without the reforms.”<\/p>\n
