Emirates, the Dubai-based airline, has signed a memorandum of understanding for the acquisition of additional 36 A380. The agreement was signed this morning by SA Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, and John Leahy, Chief Operating Officer Customers of Airbus Commercial Aircraft, at the airline’s headquarters in Dubai . The agreement concerns a firm order for 20 A380 and an option for 16 additional devices, valued at 16 billion (13 billion euros) at list price. Deliveries are planned from 2020.<\/p>\n

Sheikh Ahmed said, “We have never hidden that the A380 is a real success for Emirates. Our customers love it and we have been able to deploy it for different missions across our network, which has given us more flexibility in terms of range and passenger mix. ”<\/p>\n

And to add: “Some of the new A380 we just ordered will be used to replace the fleet. This command will ensure the stability of the aircraft’s production line. We will continue to work closely with Airbus to improve the aircraft and products on board to provide our passengers with the best possible experience. The beauty of this aircraft lies in its technology and the layout of the cabin that leave us plenty of space to offer different interiors. ”<\/p>\n

“I would like to thank Emirates, SA Sheikh Ahmed, Tim Clark and Adel Al-Redha for their continued support of the A380,” said John Leahy, Airbus Commercial Aircraft’s Chief Operating Officer Customers. “This aircraft has contributed significantly to the growth and success of Emirates since 2008 and we are delighted that this adventure continues. This new order underscores Airbus’ commitment to produce the A380 for at least another ten years. Personally, I am convinced that other orders will follow that of Emirates and that the construction of this formidable device will continue well beyond the 2030 years. ”<\/p>\n

The airline, which took delivery of its first A380 in July 2008, has received its 100e aircraft the 3 November 2017 in Hamburg.<\/p>\n

The A380 is an essential element for ensuring sustainable growth, as it reduces traffic congestion in the busiest airports by carrying more passengers in fewer flights. The A380 travels 8 200 nautical miles (15 200 kilometers) non-stop and can accommodate 575 passengers in 4 classes.<\/p>\n
